Research Positions and PhD Studentships

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position and a PhD studentship,
working within  Division I of the Max Planck Research Group  on modelling of electromagnetic problems. Experience in the simulation of light scattering or in the design of metamaterials for optical and microwave applications would be an advantage. Successful applicants will join a major new European research group in photonics with many opportunities for national and international collaboration with other research institutions and industry. There is no closing date for applications. Employment can start immediately. Enquiries may be directed to:

UCL, Belgium

1 year post-doc (with potential prolongation) in the field of analysis methods devoted to metamaterial applications. The candidate should

have a Ph.D. degree earned in the last 2 years.

Experience with numerical simulations, especially the method of moments, will be appreciated. Experimental developments are also planned, in particular in the field of metamaterials for medical imaging. The researcher will have the opportunity to work in a strongly cooperative environment: at UCL, with the microwave and telecom laboratories, as well as in the framework of the Metamorphose Network of Excellence, devoted to metamaterials.

Postdoctoral positions on NANOPHOTONICS (CSIC, Spain)

Two postdoctoral positions in nanophotonics are open at the Spanish Scientific Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid (Spain) to study theoretical aspects of optical manipulation and spatio-temporal control of light on the nanometer and femtosecond scales.

Candidates with a PhD in a relevant area of Physics or Engineering are invited to apply. Experience with plasmonics and quantum optics is desirable. The work will be performed at the Nanophotonics group in the Institute of Optics under the supervision of Dr. Javier García de Abajo ( http://nanophotonics.csic.es).

The positions are for 1+1 years starting immediately with a salary of 36,000 ? pa. A curriculum vitae and three references should be sent to  jga(at)io.cfmac.csic.es. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. Informal enquires should be addressed to Dr. Javier García de Abajo at  jga(at)io.cfmac.csic.es.

Brief Description of the Project

Our group has recently contributed to demonstrate the control of light on the subwavelength domain by means of ultrashort laser pulses that are tailored in time at will and that interact with strategically patterned nanostructures [1]. The successful candidate will apply and extend our theoretical methods to study the evolution of light in complex nanostructures in order to better understand the details of the noted control and to explore new schemes of light manipulation.
